Our hope is that, in time, we can once again offer three groups throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties, in addition to our group in Atmore. Through these gatherings, we strive to provide companionship, understanding, and support to those who have experienced the loss of a spouse. If you are grieving, please know you do not have to walk this journey alone-we are here to walk alongside you.

My name is Jack Nichols, and I am honored to serve as President of the Board of Directors for Widowed Persons Service of Greater Mobile. It is my privilege to welcome you to our website.
My wife, Debbie, passed away in 2012, just nine days later, I attended my first Widowed Persons grief support meeting at Christ United Church. Through that experience, I learned that grief is a journey-and a deeply personal one for each of us.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought our meetings to a halt until 2022. At that time, a group of former members came together to and made a decision to reinstate the program. We were fortunate to have Gray Zimlich join our organization as the facilitator of the grief support group in Mobile. When Gray was no longer able to continue in that role, my wife, Andrea, and I stepped in as facilitators. We are grateful to serve in this ministry and encouraged by the continued growth of out group.

For the past 33 years, WPS Mobile has been a very special part of my life. I first became involved with WPS after losing my husband and finding support through the organization. What started as a place where I came for help eventually became something much more meaningful to me.
Over the years, I became a facilitator for a monthly WPS meeting, giving me the opportunity to help others who were going through their own journey of grief. I’ve met so many wonderful people along the way, and it has meant a lot to be able to share my experiences and let others know they don’t have to go through it alone.
I was also blessed to meet my second husband along the way. Together, we were able to help others and remind them that there can still be good things and new beginnings after loss.
I’ve enjoyed being involved in all kinds of things with WPS Mobile, whether it was decorating for events, helping find speakers for meetings, or simply being there for others. Looking back, I’m grateful for all the friendships, memories, and experiences this organization has given me.
